2017 Specialized Sequoia Elite

If you've ever felt torn between a "traditional" road bike and a dedicated touring rig, you're not alone. Now, though, the Sequoia Elite gives you both by combining the two in one genre-bending bike. It has everything you need to hit the road and not look back. The Sequoia's path to adventure starts at the frame, which Specialized constructed from Premium Cr-Mo tubing. This material is coveted for its strength, light weight, and tuned ride quality. And they took this a step further by selecting tubes that are specific to each frame size, ensuring that every frame rides exactly as intended. The Adventure Geometry is unique in that it skews the line between a traditional road bike and a dedicated touring rig. You'll find an ample wheelbase and low bottom bracket for control, but the chainstays and tube angles ensure that you'll be able to travel efficiently and quickly, regardless of whether or not your rig is loaded. A beefy FACT carbon fiber fork is sure to take the sting out of harsh roads. And when you're deep into said roads, you'll be thankful for the extra water bottle mount found on its fork leg. Digging into the details, the frame is outfitted with an ample number of mounts for water, racks, and fenders. And for the build, they included reliable parts, like a Shimano 105 groupset, powerful hydraulic disc brakes, and hand-built Hayfield wheels that are cased in wide, 2Bliss Ready tires.

At 46 years old, you want a bike that does'nt add pain to the years you have on your back, and this bike is really easy with it. I use it for training and fitness, and twice a year for the Rosarito - Ensenada 50 mile bicycle ride. It's fast on flats and handles the climbs easy with it's 27 speeds. Very recommendable.

I've had my Sequoia Elite now for 2 years, and use it both as a weekend ride bike and a commuter for a 34 mile, paved trail/road round trip commute from Falls Church, VA to Old Town Alexandria, VA two to three times a week. Outfitted with Specialized Armadillos, I've never had a flat. The bike is responsive, handles well, shift and brakes well, and is a joy and comfortable to ride, both on the commute and for longer weekend rides. Price was right too.

      Comments:

This is just a lovely, comfortable bike. I ride a Kona hybrid for commuting to and from work, but the Sequoia Elite is my weekend long distance (30 - 50km) bike. I've owned it less than a year and am waiting patiently for the snow and ice to clear so that I can put in some serious distance. I find the brakes a bit noisy and will probably change the pads and possibly upgrade the tires this summer.

        Comments:

I bought this bike last year while I was studying in Germany. Took it on a 2000km tour down the Germany/France boarder and then played around in the alps :-) I never had a problem with the 105 components. They're tough enough to handle anything I threw at them, including a couple of MTB trails I happened to turn on to by mistake in Switzerland. The Zertz inserts along with the stock seatpost saved my rear end on the cobblestone paths and mountain roads. Now that I'm back in WI, I use my Sequoia as a (FAST) daily commuter and with winter approaching I'm looking into a pair of studded tires. The Sequoia is a amazing all around bike. If you’re looking for a fun, comfortable bike that also performs very well, this bike will give you great bang for your dollar (or Euro in my case). I my opinion the best buy in the world of bicycles.

This bike has been a great transition from hybrid to road bike. It's light, responsive, and comfortable. After trying out some women's bikes, I came back to this one for overall comfort. Awesome on hills! This bike gives back 150%.

          Comments:

As a 60+ year old rider new to road bikes, I found my Sequoia Elite to be several steps above the hybrid (Road + Mountain) which it replaced. It is sturdy, lighter than the hybrid, has a great range of gears, and is very responsive. It is also a great value for the money, when compared to bikes twice its cost. Setbacks are moderate components and a heavier aluminum frame which, in spite of the carbon forks, transmits road buzz to the rider. My next bike will be a carbon fiber with higher end components and better wheels (perhaps a Roubaix if I can save enough for it).

            Comments:

I use this bike as my commuter bike and I'm glad I took the time to research and talk to others that rode this bike. As we all age, the tendency to sit more upright becomes apparent. Comfort for me was paramount. I changed out the Specialized issued seat for a Brooks saddle, added cork tape for comfort. Enjoy this bike and work on fine tuning it. It does take time but the effort is worth the ride! I traded out the stem for a slighly higher rise and position above the level of the seat. I don't need to ride or look like I'm in the Tour de France! The bike is great for climbing hills and can move on the flats. The bar brake levers are a treat when forced to ride in traffic or among pedestrians. Bottom line: This bike will be a keeper and the one you love to ride, yeah, it's that good. No complaints. Excellent bike and well built.

              Comments:

This bike is very comfortable; especially because of the geometry that allows the rider to sit up a little higher. Also has a second set of brakes on top of the handle for ease of braking from any position. I would add that the brakes are very noisy, but generally the components are excellent. I commute to work daily on this bike and go for 30 to 40k rides on weekends. This is a great bike for the weekend road rider who wants to improve fitness.

As a Trek 1500 rider the last couple of years wanting to get into a faster and easier machine to ride long distance, I couldn't be any happier with this bike. Very comfortable for my frame (6'2" - 180lbs.) and it's a breeze to knock off 40 mile training rides. I added clip pedals and had a BG 2D fitting, which was well worth the money. Doing a 70 mile race in Oct. and my first Century in Nov.

This is my first road bike. I've ridden a 10-year old Trek hybrid and was trying to improve my fitness. My typical ride is 20 miles every other day, with an occasional 40 mile ride on a rail to trail path. The bike has a very smooth, stable ride. The Sequoia Elite was a great fit: I'm 6'0 and 205 lbs. I enjoyed the slightly upright position compared to other road bikes. The components make this an outstanding value. I highly recommend the Sequoia Elite as a first step into road biking.
