I bought a Specialized X in 2014. same design through 2016. I have put 5K miles on it. I can now only get 20 miles on a charge in turbo mode after ~ 200 charge cycles. The big drawback of this bike is that it was under designed for the weight that is on the back tire. I have had many spokes break, and the shop finally had to rebuild the back wheel using heavier duty spokes. Also this bike is very susceptible to rear flats due to the weight on the wheel. The stock tires offer minimal protection. you will need an upgraded Tire, inner tube shield, and goop. Other than that, it has been a great bike.
Since buying the Turbo X from Spokes last year I have put over 900 miles on the bike. It has performed flawlessly on both commutes and long recreational rides. The battery life is impressive as I have easily ridden 70 miles. I normally ride in ECO 40% and therefore don't use as much battery. The bike is advertised as something like 50 miles in Turbo mode. The boost up hills is the most impressive part of riding an electric bike. The Turbo has been well engineered and it is felt when riding the bike - solid, comfortable, well balanced and no noise at all - neither you nor anyone else recognizes it as an electric bike. Features like the headlight and tail light provide a significant safety boost and when riding around other vehicles they tend to provide a wider margin than when riding my road bike. As for service, outstanding warranty and service - a lock out bracket broke and was replaced the day the part arrived. Excellent product and outstanding worldwide service. While the Turbo S has a 500W motor (and more cost), the Turbo X has been perfect and really enjoyable to ride. I understand a new battery is being produced and will get it as soon as I can.
I demo'd this bike at a local shop to see if it was appropriate for my father who has a bad back and bad knees. Based on the conversation with the shop owner this is the person who they are marketing this product to - someone who can't otherwise bike for any significant distance (handicapped and/or elderly). First, the brakes are significantly underspec'd for a bike of this weight. Second, the power assist cut out intermittently, one time it was at the bottom of a hill. If I weren't an actual cyclist I would guess the bike would have had to be abandoned. Lastly, you can't load these things on a standard bike rack. I just don't get this concept - if you can't ride a bike - why don't you just ride a scooter or motorcycle? I'm going to get my dad a BMW f650 instead of this bike. I'll end up saving money since he can ride it for a few years and it won't depreciate more than a couple thousand bucks. This bike will be worth nothing as soon as you roll it out the showroom floor.
This is a bullet proof bike so far after 100 miles. The ride is excellent and performance top notch for an Urban X bike. Currently getting 120 miles per charge running Econ 20 and doing some regeneration down steep hills.
